Special Pheasant Hunt

CRIT Fish and Game will be bringing in 400 ring-neck pheasants on November 3rd 2024 for a special pheasant and chukar hunt! Special permits required.

  • When does the season start? - November 3rd 2024 to November 10th 2024.

  • When can I hunt? - Hunting beings at sunrise and continues through the day until sunset.

  • Where can I hunt them? - The kudu range area is the only location on CRIT open for this special hunt. Game Wardens will be monitoring the area and only special permit holders will be granted access. YOU MUST CHECK IN WITH GAME WARDENS PRIOR TO ACCESSING THIS HUNTING AREA. You must stay within the designated hunting area. See the map below.

  • What is the bag limit? - 3 pheasants per day. 1 chuckar per day. 3 birds in aggregate, no more of which than 1 can be chuckar. If you wish to hunt again and refill your bag, you must purchase the special permit again.

  • Can I hunt other birds besides pheasant and chuckar during this time? - No. This special hunt is for ring neck pheasant and chuckar only. No other birds may be taken at this time. Exceptions for standard hunting season overlap given.

  • Can I bring my kids to this hunt? - Minors may accompany adults under standard conditions. See our Hunting Regulations for more information. Hunters safety course required for all hunters. Minors are required to have their own special hunt permit.

  • Can I use lead shot? - Yes, both lead and steel shot are acceptable for this hunt.

  • I already have a CRIT hunting permit. Can I still participate in the special hunt? - To participate in the special pheasant/chuckar hunt, hunters must have BOTH a standard CRIT hunting permit and a special hunt permit. Tribal members must have a valid Tribal ID card and a purchase a special hunt permit.

CHUKAR

Chukars are not native to Arizona but the middle east with those birds found in Arizona most likely originating in India. Chukars are very distinctive birds. The black line passing through the eye and encircling the white throat make them easily recognizable.

Pheasant

A handsome, unmistakable bird, both sexes of this pheasant have long pointed tails, but it is the cocks or roosters that are unrivaled in their plumage. With a green feathered head and white ring on their necks.
